Dialogue
Joshua Charles Joseph × Khalida Toukkani
Origin
A meeting at ICFF.
Khalida Toukkani and Joshua Charles Joseph met in New York during ICFF. Their conversation became a commission for the Common House lobby: six wool surfaces able to meet an already expressive interior.
Composition
The pelican becomes a presence.
The central work interprets a pelican in wool at wall scale. Around it, abstract palms and fluid compositions carry the visual and musical energy of New Orleans without imitating its décor.
Space
Soften without erasing.
The works were also conceived to support the lobby’s sonic atmosphere without making a general acoustic-performance claim. Wool does not mute the intensity of the place; it gives it a calmer, more tactile and more hospitable surface.
