Pile height and sculpted relief
Pile height changes touch, light and how a design reads. A higher relief can make a composition more tactile; a more controlled pile often gives a sharper reading.
The references to keep in mind
The choice also depends on use. Beneath a table or in a heavily used area, pronounced relief may be less suitable than in a bedroom or quieter lounge.
Three points to check
- Relate pile height to use
- View relief in raking light
- Avoid gratuitous relief: it should serve the design
The Maison’s point of view
The Maison uses relief as part of the design: sometimes to underline a line, sometimes to let an area recede into light.
For a real project, these references should always be tested against plans, light, use and the constraints of place. The Maison then confirms material, dimensions and feasibility through Project Desk.
